Samantha breathed in the smell of freshly cut grass, newly turned soil, fresh flowers on graves, and the crisp winter air as she stood between rows of tombs at the Graystone Cemetery.
A far away look clouded her eyes, and her smile was as sad as the sun on the day of mist. A lovely bouquet of lilies was safely cocooned in her delicate hands, and the sound of the graveyard's silence soothed her.
Right in front of her, stood a tomb bearing a marble headstone with the inscription, “In loving memory of our dear friend, Samantha's Dreams and Aspirations. 12th September 1982 – 20th December 1982.”
Similar headstones were arraigned like a battalion of soldiers in the same graveyard, all bearing bold inscriptions in like manner. Her eyes finally rested on the tomb in front of her, and a single tear slid down her face. She gently placed the bouquet of lilies on the face of the tomb and began her journey back, never looking back, even once.
Just like Samantha, many people have buried their dreams, potentials, and aspirations in the graveyard. Maybe, because of self-induced or external fears, doubts, failures, or even wrong notions. Some have even gone as far as decorating the tombs with flowers and beautiful headstones, bearing the birth and death dates of their dreams.
And like Samantha's, most dreams didn't even get the chance to crawl, talk more of growing into maturity. They were born and buried within a short period of time.
News flash!
It's time to exhume those dreams. Dig them up from their burial sites and breathe life into them.
For those whose dreams are at the point of death, dreams that are bedeviled with terminal illnesses, my candid advice is to put them on life support, place an oxygen mask over their nostrils. Do your best possible to keep them alive.
All in all, don't give up on those dreams, no matter how rough the ride is, keep striving. Know this, no one, absolutely no one, can fulfill your dreams and aspirations better than you.
Finally, please remember the God factor, he is the source of life anyway.
